Even though it has become a risk to have a job as your only source of income, it is shocking to know that the number of people searching for jobs (in the name of looking for financial security) on a daily basis is on the increase.
Heck there are lots of sites online these days that helps connect the employer with prospective employees. Apparently (or unfortunately), “jobs” are not going away anytime soon.
The burning questions in my heart now are these:
Why do people voluntarily trap themselves in this all too familiar rat race?
Am I the only one hearing the news or am I the only one reading the papers?
Am I the only one who has realized what a mess the economic situation is currently?
I guess not.
I know you are fully aware of what’s going on right now and it shocks me that you still put yourself in a position to get trapped in it.
Is it because you are scared of what might happen if you don’t earn a monthly income (The almighty Salary).
You are too scared to start a business that might never be profitable and then land you in a pit.
You worry about how you will pay your bills or provide the basic needs for your family.
Trust me I totally understand all this.
I only have one question for you:
What if you were suddenly fired without notice?
Will you be forced to do the needful then? My guess is yes.
But why wait for the situation to get desperate?
Why not start now?
If you are still not sure whether or not you should quit and start a business, not to worry I’ll give you 7 reasons why now is the best time to do it.
Yes! Now. No more waiting.
Here we go…
- The luxury of freedom:
What is your time worth to you? Having the freedom to do whatever, wherever and whenever is a major reason why you should quit your job and start a business.
If you are anything like me, you place a very high value on freedom. So my question to you is this: What is your freedom number?
How much money do you need to make to enable you live the kind of life that you truly want to live?
If you are not getting that number from your job, and you know you will never get that number, you might want to do the needful now… Activate plan B –> Start something that can grow and guarantee you that freedom number, and then Quit. Simple!
- The opportunity to retire early:
If done right, you can sell your business and make so much money from it that you might actually want to retire early and become job/work free. I recently had a guest on my show who talked about how he started a company and then sold it after sometime. He made so much money in the process that he was able to retire early at the age of 38. He now travels the world with his wife. I am yet to see a job that will give you such benefits before you are 40.
If you know of one or find any, please drop the link in the comment area below, and I’ll be sure to check it out…:)
- Best training in personal development and finance:
One of the secrets to personal (intellectual) discovery, growth and development lies in starting a business. From the planning phase, to the sourcing for money to funding the idea, to naming and execution, you will change and improve in several steps along the way and discover things about yourself that you didn’t even know was lying dormant in you.
The art of starting a business trains you in patience, financial intelligence and all the other good stuff.
It’s a total package, and you should seriously give it a try…!
- The internet makes it so easy to start a business today, Take advantage of it:
Unlike traditional brick and mortar businesses that you may be used to in the past, which is probably one of the reasons you are so scared to start a business in the first place, starting a business using the internet today has very low startup costs.
Come to think of it, you are currently working a day job and don’t even have the time to open a traditional mom and pop shop let alone have to go check in everyday to see how things are going.
Well I’ve got good news for you… You don’t have to do all that. With the internet today, you could do serious business online without leaving the comfort of your home. This is indeed the best time to be alive…!
- Live your dream lifestyle
Do you dream of vacationing in the Bahamas, in Dubai or even Tahiti?
Why is it still a dream? Why haven’t you done it yet? What are you waiting for?
Oh sorry. I forgot. You can’t afford it.
So this is another perfect reason why you should start a business today. Owning and running a successful business will help you fund your dream lifestyle. You can ask John Obidi about this, he sure knows how to take fun vacations regularly and he might tell you it’s one of the best benefits about having your own business. Don’t tell him I sent you though.
- Determine how much you want to earn
Owning and running a successful business will make you the pilot of your finances. You can increase your earnings at will without having to wait for a promotion or a raise from the boss. How cool is that?
Think about it…don’t you always feel bad whenever you have to go negotiate with your boss for a better pay because you can no longer afford the cost of tomatoes in the market?
Or worse still, when you have to constantly kiss ass just so you could remain in the good books of “The Boss”, so he doesn’t cut your pay.
Please, get a life.
- Financial Security
In Nigeria (my beloved country), lots of people sell the lie that a government job will give you financial security. Well, it is what it is… a lie.
If you have been reading the papers or listening to the news in recent times, you would have heard how employees are being owed months and months of salaries. Some states as much as 10 months. Pathetic.
It never ceases to amaze me how people will completely entrust their lives or finances to someone or systems that they have no control over. Something as unstable as a job.
Please wake up and start planning your exit strategy while you still have fire in your bones. Or you will wake up one day and find out that everything you have been working for was all a hoax.
The only sure way to secure your financial future is to start, own and run a successful business.
I believe your creative juices are beginning to build up now, and you can’t wait to take action. But…
A little disclaimer though
All I have written so far is not to say that jobs are completely evil. They do have their place (they should only serve as launch pads), but should never be a long term strategy.
Also this is not to say that you should go to work tomorrow and tell your boss to his face that you quit.
If you already have a plan in place, great. But if not, get ready for the flames.
So what are you going to do?
In the comment section below, tell me what you think of all this and if you happen to find yourself in a job that you know is not going to lead you to your paradise, feel free to let me know what next step you are going to take.
